Who are we
Founded on August 16 - 1983, the Paulista Intellectual Property Association, referred to as ASPI by its abbreviation in Portuguese, congregates professionals working in the Intellectual Property field in specialized law firms, as well as in companies, associations, universities, in Brazil and abroad.
Its first president was Dr. Jose Carlos Tinoco Soares (1983/1987), being succeeded in the presidency by Dr. Luiz Armando Lippel Braga (1987/1991), Dr. Newton Silveira (1991/1995), Dr. Milton de Mello Junqueira Leite (1996/1999), Dr. Luiz Armando Lippel Braga (1999/2001), Dr. Alberto Camelier (2001/2005) and Dr. Clovis Silveira, elected president for the 2005/2007 and 2007/2009 terms.
Our mission
The ASPI main goal is to spread Intellectual Property and collaborate with the improvement of the professionals working in this field, by means of different courses, conferences, seminars, study groups and congresses, organized by its own Directors of the Cultural Area; as well as to support and protect the members interests before public and private organisms, especially before the Industrial Property National Institute – INPI by its abbreviation in Portuguese.
What we have done
ASPI has been co-working and co-sponsoring joint events with ABAPI – Brazilian Industrial Property Agents Association, ABPI – Brazilian Intellectual Property Association, and IBPI – Brazilian Intellectual Property Institute (by its abbreviations in Portuguese), setting as a goal the strengthening of relations among these fellow entities.
No less important has been the active participation of all the Board Members at many different events nationally held about Intellectual Property (IP) issues.
The efforts made by ASPI tend to give its members valuable opportunities to keep in permanent contact with the latest tendencies and thinking about legal, social, cultural, political, and economic issues related to IP matters.
Our proposal for this period
Recently, ASPI has been organizing itself to offer more and improved services to its members, specifically in the cultural area, which is now formed by commissions, structured in study groups, series of conferences and lectures, courses and seminars.
Furthermore, special importance will be given to institutional relationships, within the country and abroad, as well as to the current and new members.

Why is it important to be an ASPI associate?
Being a part of ASPI is more than just exchanging experiences and ideas with colleagues. It is to exercise citizenship and professional ethics, necessary for the maintenance and continuity of development of the local society and the progress of the nation.
It is important to point out that our members enjoy several benefits, such as free access to our headquarters, where there are bibliographies of interest, video tapes, meeting and study rooms, computers, among others facilities available.
In order to support our continuous program of improvement of our infrastructure and services offered by ASPI, it is fundamental to expand our list of members and count on their participation in events, study groups and meetings promoted by our association. After all, participation and individual contribution of our members are vital elements to make feasible the life of our association, and therefore we will always be open and honored to receive new applications.
